My pics of the week: e-sessions that rock

As I mentioned before, Pinterest is one rad tool  for curating and sharing all the pretty things you find online!

I decided to look up some of the photographers I love working with and see what they have been up to recently. Here's a peek of some photos I added to my "E-sessions that rock" board.

P.S. Feel free to add me on Pinterest!

Wedding photos are here!

The photos from Davina + Daniel are amazing! We just ordered a few Blurb books for ourselves and as gifts to our parents ( http://bit.ly/deIyb5) since Groupon had a great deal for $60 worth of Blurb for only $20.

The following are just the tip of the iceberg, the one of us in between the boats is really cool!

Real Wedding: Garre Winery

Apologies for the silence again -- I've been swamped with a bunch of stuff, especially with a wedding in Calistoga coming up.

I'm very excited to give you a sneak peek of Shenna and Owen's wedding at Martinelli Winery (Livermore, CA). Shenna has such grace and style -- I admired a lot of her DIY and vintage/handmade details; she even gave me her "I Do" banner as a parting gift (for me to use for my wedding in October).

Dorothee and Annabel of Belathee Photography (NYC/Seattle) captured this couple just beautifully!

Inspiration #83: Sharing is caring

In all your wedding planning, did you think ahead to how your friends will share photos with you after the wedding? Most go the route of tagging pics in Facebook, but how about opening an online photo sharing account just for your wedding photos. Here's a nice way to ask your guests to do so (thanks, Chica and Jo!): print business sized cards with the link to the photo sharing site. The camera box is adorable!

Ahh, the ring shot. Have you planned yours yet? Here are a few to get you started from my one of my favorite wedding websites, Southern Weddings:

Here's a playful one from Kate Harrison Photography. Can you find the bands?

Planning our E-session

With our wedding about 4 months away, you'd think we would have had our engagement pics done by now. Well, I got the dress in January (a darling black lace number with a yellow petticoat from Anthropologie) but we are postponing the session for two reasons:

1) We both want to lose 10-15 pounds.
2) We haven't decided what the theme should be!

There's way too much inspiration and we've tapped into some local talent (to be announced soon) on helping us style the e-session.

In the meantime, here are some of my faves:

and one of my all-time fave photographers, Feather Love (Noa). This is the first e-session (French New-Wave) I ever blogged about.

3 tips for taking photos with your entourage

If you don't have the luxury of taking the bride-groom photos before the ceremony, or if you choose to see each other only at the ceremony versus before, you will likely have to take photos with immediate and extended family members as well as the wedding party just after the ceremony. Often times, there's only about an hour -- the cocktail hour -- to take these photos. If you have a large family, this may be daunting.

Here are some observations I have about expediting this process:

1) Ensure you have a shot list of which family members or close family friends you must take photos with (the wedding party is a given). Often, the mother of the bride wants her side with the couple, the father's side of the bride, and so on. Having the shot list will help your photographer assess the best approach for taking photos. For example, if you have tons of group photos, your photographer can work with you on deciding which ones should be priority (must-haves) versus the nice-to-haves.

2) Ensure you have a family member (or close friend) from the groom and bride's sides assigned to each family and gather everyone needed in the photos. Ideally that family member/close friend is familiar with most everyone. Your photographer won't know who Aunt Sally is or who Grandpa Ted is. But your sister, or great-aunt might. So ask that family member to help "herd" each side of the family. And whoever you choose must be assertive!

3) Ask your photographer what their shooting style is for taking these post-ceremony/group photos. In my opinion, the most efficient way is to start with the big groups first and then dismiss family members. The last people standing should be the bride and groom (or else the wedding party). It's more challenging to start with the bride and groom photos first and then try to add family members or other close friends because they are often wandering off to catch up with each other or grab a drink/appetizer.

[Tip #4: Ask your wedding coordinator or catering manager to have refreshments and a few appetizers close at hand for the bride and groom and/or wedding party because these photos often take place outside and the wedding party is already somewhat exhausted/potentially dehydrated from the day's preparations!]

Those are the top three that float to mind. I'm happy to hear more suggestions in case they've escaped me!

Inspiration #74: A Musical E-session

I'm super excited about coordinating Joanne and Vincent's wedding at the Four Seasons San Francisco this coming Saturday. They're such an adorable couple and here the photos to prove it (thanks to photographer, Caroline Tran). Joanne was also just featured on San Francisco Style Unveiled and even had some kind words to share about me (Va de Vie Events).

Joanne and Vincent's playful guitar prop has definitely given me and Guitar Fred a few ideas on how our e-session might look.Click here to see more of this fabulous e-session.

Real Wedding: Tee Time for Karen + Yu-Ming

Here's a real wedding that took place at the Ranch Golf Club in San Jose. The view was breathtaking and the bride and groom were lucky that their wedding date -- also the first day of spring -- was sunny! All images by Nancy Rothstein photography.

Inspiration #72: An Anthropologie Wedding

I can't hardly believe this wedding took place in the fall. The pastel blues and orange are cheery and the DIY details are enviable. So happy it's spring!

Inspiration #71: A Bold Bouquet

Yum! This gorgeous bouquet belongs to a bold couple -- in fact, the bride wore red cowboy boots with her wedding dress. When in doubt, wear red!

A Sweet Engagement Shoot by Jerry Yoon

Swoon! My former colleague, Bethany, is getting hitched and she and her fiance are working with one of my favorite photographers, Jerry Yoon, for their wedding. Both Jerry and Bethany were kind enough to let me share their engagement shoot with you all. Congrats, Bethany and Bryan!

Wedding Destination: Mendocino

Guitar Fred and I have never been -- together -- to Mendocino, a coastal town 3 hours north of San Francisco, so we're excited to get away from the kiddies (Munch, our dog, and Speedy, our cat) for a couple nights. We only booked our lodging last week and we were pleasantly surprised to find a room with ocean view, fireplace, refrigerator and large deck for only $120/night at the Sweetwater Inn. There are public and private hot tubs and massage therapy also on-site.

Mendocino is a popular destination for weddings. It offers fantastic coastal views of the Pacific Ocean, hiking in the fern canyon and pgymy forest of Van Damme State Park (no relation to Jean Claude), whale watching and wine tasting. I'm inclined to go horseback riding on the beach (the photo shows riders galloping with huge grins on their faces, but a Yelp review said the pace was more like pony ride at the county fair). Nonetheless, I'm looking forward to our Valentine's Day couples massage and lunch at the highly rated Cafe Beaujolais.

Enjoy the long 3-day weekend and here are some photos of a Mendocino wedding photographed by J. Perlman and R. Lutge of San Francisco:

I heart Elizabeth Hurley

I'd like you to meet Elizabeth Hurley. No, not Hugh Grant's ex. I'm talking about a talented San Francisco wedding photographer with an exquisite eye, organic and earthy style and easy on the budget (I couldn't believe my eyes) without sacrificing quality!

I met Elizabeth (Beth) at a wedding fair at the Four Seasons a couple weeks ago. I was immediately impressed by her style: vintage wire baskets held 11x14 mats dedicated to three unique weddings and the tables were accented with branches and peonies. Beth was also very friendly and flipping through the photos, I sensed that her clients were relaxed and clearly felt comfortable with Beth's direction.

Who's behind the lens...

A few months ago, Davina + Daniel (the cutest couple ever!) selected us for their 2009 Photography Giveaway. I was tickled with their recent blog post, where they show what it's like to be a wedding photographer. I expect they'll be sporting their acrobatic skills for us as well!

Inspiration #55: Under the Moon and Stars

Martha, how I love thee. Another stroke of brilliance. This can be set up using cardboard cutouts and lots of Martha's yummy glitter.
